Meeting on Friday, June 14, 2002

Home of Helen Bechdel

These minutes were reconstructed in 2008 by DHE from notes scribbled by Sam Totor, so a list of those present is not available.

1.  Call to Order.  At 8:20 p.m.

2.  Review of Minutes.  Gay Dunne moved, True Fisher seconded that they be accepted.

3.  Treasurer’s Report.  Gay moved, Colina Jordan seconded that the report be accepted.

4.  Arts Administrator’s Report.  Sam Totor presented the recent mail.

5.  Committee Reports

a.  BHCA Gallery at the Gamble Mill

b.  Old House Fair.  Email names of interested parties to Colina.

c.  Summer Sounds.  Invite JoAnn Knupp to next meeting.  Make refreshments available?

d.  Film Forum.  A “theme” has been chosen of Women’s Body Image.  Helen spoke with Rod Bingaman, who have her names of a few companies that deal with this theme and a cinematographer who had a student that dealt with this issue.

e.  Sunday Afternoons at the Library.  No report.

f.  Victorian Christmas Arts & Crafts Show.  No report.

g.  Local Government Grants.  The Committee met last night.

6.  Old Business

a.  Web Calendar.  Jim will call Doug Stanfield about the status, so that we can get our schedule of the website.

b.  Pennsylvania Centre Chamber Orchestra “Snow Queen.”  BHCA recommended that PCCO apply for LGG themselves.  Bob Shephard submitted an application for a LGG.

c.  Emily Olson Collection.  Jim Dunne referred to a report that he submitted to BHCA members as an email on May 21.  A committee consisting of Helen Bechdel, Brent Eighme, Gay and Jim Dunne, Robert Fenichel, Rob and True Fisher, and Sharon McCarthy met twice and visited the inventory.  The committee recommended that BHCA not pursue the purchase of the collection: (1) An appropriate and available permanent site can be identified to display a Bellefonte Collection.  (2) The $75,000 purchase price far exceeds the assets of BHCA and would be difficult to raise.  (3) A fair and accurate appraisal may be difficult to get.

d.  Brochure. Committee will meet tonight.

7.  New Business.  Ann Hartford’s grant proposal for park bench replacement was half-funded by CCCF.  That money will be matched from leftovers from the walking tour maps fundraiser.

8.  Next meeting is in September.
