Location:  Home of Joann and Dick Knupp, 441 N. Spring St., Bellefonte

 

Attendance:  JoAnn Knupp (President), Mary McMurtrie (Arts Administrator), Dick Knupp, Mary Vollero, Keith Koch, Carl & Nancy Miller, True Fisher,Sally Houser, Colina Seeley, Lora Gauss, Anna Mae Stitzer, Ziggy Coyle, David Bauchspies, Gay & Jim Dunne.

 

Minutes (3/19/10):  Approved (True, Gay).

 

Treasurer’s Report : There was no treasurer's report.

 

Grant Proposals:
1. Spring Street Studio of Art
(Vollero);  Mary proposed to partner with BHCA to apply for a Ford Foundation grant to cover renovations and development of the present studio at 133 N. Spring Street.  The studio already has 2 presses.  She proposes to rent the studio for artists by the hour or day.  Artists from out of town would be able to stay at the studio or at local B&B establishments.  David brought up liability issues for the studio and BHCA which will need to be discussed further if the grant is approved.

 

Motion: BHCA will partner with Mary Vollero to apply for a Ford Foundation grant to support and develop the Spring Street Studio of Art.  The motion (Carl Miller, Keith Koch) was approved.

 

2.  Sunday Afternoons at the Library: The application to the Centre Community Community Foundation will be submitted in the 2nd quarter.

 

Fund Raising Sctivities:
1. Barnes & Noble Book Fair - June 25-27
   (Sally) We need to arrange for artists to show works at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, June 26.  We need to man the table from 9 AM to 9 PM.  Vouchers were distributed.

 

2. Artie Shaw Orchestra Concert May 1, 8 -10 PM   There has been extensive advertising by Mary Ellen Hill with the help of Dick Knupp, Jr.  The school needs to be open at 6 PM for the orchestra.  Roger Munnell will lead a discussion with the leader and a couple of the members of the orchestra at 7 PM.  We will try to promote the discussion with the remaining advertising.

 

Summer Sounds:
The Army Band will not perform.  The 2010 Schedule:

6/13 - Bellefonte Community Band

6/20 - Jay Vonada - Trombone

6/27 - Callanish - Irish & Scottish traditional Music

7/4   - John Thomas - piano

7/11 - Tommy Wareham - (Not confirmed)

7/18 - Gary Brubaker - Guitar, folk songs

7/25 - Little German Band

8/1   - Nittany Knights - Barbershop

8/8   - Mind Spine - Rock

BHCA Gallery at the Gamble Mill: The Art of the Bellefonte Schools - April 19 - June 4.
