Music Committees
The Concerts in the Park Committee meets in February or March every year. We generally have 10 concerts in Talleyrand Park starting at 7p.m. on Sunday evenings, from the second Sunday in June through the 2nd Sunday in August. Each committee member picks a Sunday to be responsible for and a band he/she would like to invite to play. There may be a band in mind or he/she can choose one from our list of bands. Within the next month, the prospective band will be called and scheduled. In the middle of May, the committee member will send out an information packet to the band. Then he/she will choose an emcee who will present the band for that evening. The emcee is often a public figure, like the Borough manager, the director of the Chamber of Commerce, a minister from Bellefonte, or a local Judge. Once that relationship has been established, the committee member will send to the emcee a blurb on what to announce.
On the night of the concert, the committee member will show up and introduce himself/herself to everyone concerned and bring bottles of water for the performers. Half way through the performance, the representative should count the number of people in attendance and collect donations or find someone among the spectators likes to do the collection.
We need 4-10 new people to help with this program. If we had 10 people, then each member would only be responsible for one Sunday evening. JoAnn Knupp is Chairperson of this event, and she fills in when others cannot be there.
Sunday Afternoons at the Library
Established 1981
(Contact:
Jim Dunne)
We present 5 concerts a year (October - May) in the Centre County Library Historical Museum presenting classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk, and other types of music. Volunteers participate in planning concerts and contacting musicians; coordinate concerts with the Library staff; arrange for tuning of the 1880 rosewood Steinway grand piano; assist with concert setup; provide promotional material for the Library and BHCA websites. One of the perks for a volunteer is to hear wonderful music in an intimate setting.
Arts & Crafts Committees
The BHCA Gallery Committee presents four shows a year in the Gamble Mill Tavern. Shows change on Saturday mornings from 8:30 - 11 AM. There is a reception on Tuesday, 7-9 PM, ten days following installation. The committee is responsible for securing artists, overseeing delivery and pick up of artwork, installing the art, and preparing a show list. Meetings are scheduled as needed to discuss future shows. Anyone who enjoys art and would like to get some hands on experience hanging art at the Gamble Mill is invited to volunteer to be a member of the Gallery Committee.
Bellefonte Victorian Christmas Arts & Crafts Show
Managed by BHCA since 1989
(Contact:
True Fisher
or
Jim Dunne)
Bellefonte Victorian Christmas, an annual celebration since
1982, occurs on the second Friday - Sunday of December. The Arts & Crafts Show
is presented in three venues, the Bellefonte
YMCA,
the Bellefonte Elementary School and the Bellefonte Middle School. The committee
meets early each year to review the previous year and plan for the next show.
Year round we seek to add new artists by attending regional crafts shows.
Committee members plan the layouts for each of the venues, prepare the sites for
the show, help artists find their locations, and assist during the show.
Gardens
The Talleyrand Park Committee is a member of Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association. Volunteers meet several times a year at the Train Station in Talleyrand Park. Volunteers should have an interest in trees, bushes, and shrubs, miscellaneous plantings, including flowers, as well as maintenance issues and new projects for the park. Members have worked on such projects as: Playground equipment design, picnic tables and benches, placement of memorial trees, shrubs, or bushes, design of fencing -- most recently the fence around the Lincoln bust -- design of support walls at stream bank, maintenance issues with the suspension bridge, gazebo, sculpture garden, flowerbeds, and other plantings, soil erosion and stream bank restoration, cooperative projects with Borough Council members and employees, cooperative projects with the Bellefonte Garden Club with various plantings, and the Edible Landscape Garden project. We also need to fundraise, from corporations, individuals, and from ads in the Historical Walking Tour Map.
Volunteers who do not want to attend meetings and are interested only in helping with plantings, cleanup, or painting and other hands-on projects, are welcome and will be called when they are needed. Contact True Fisher, 355-1458, if you would like more information.
